Greenleaf honors Bridge Street Kroger as Employer of the Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Dec. 7, 2016) — Greenleaf Job Training Services today honored the Bridge Street Kroger in Dublin as its 2016 Employer of the Year.

Greenleaf presented store officials with a plaque honoring them for their collaboration with Greenleaf Job Training Services and for their willingness to work with people with varying abilities.

Greenleaf Job Training Services, Inc., is an employment resource for individuals with differing abilities. Greenleaf pairs qualified job candidates with local employers to forge mutually beneficial working relationships by providing pre-employment screenings, job planning, resume writing, job skills training, mock interviews and job coaching once a client has been hired by an employer.

Greenleaf Job Training Services presents its Employer of the Year Award as a way to honor businesses that stand out for their commitment to working with Greenleaf and its clients.

“We chose to honor the Bridge Street Kroger because they have been very willing to include our applicants in the interview and hiring process and have brought several of them on board as new employees,” said Scot Howard, business relations specialist at Greenleaf. “They also have enabled us to come in with reasonable accommodations, to assist in training and then assist the clients on the job.”

Right now, the Bridge Street Kroger employs four people who were Greenleaf clients, said Matt Matusek, store leader. And those four people have been placed in jobs throughout the store, based on their abilities, just as any other candidates would be, he said.

“The neat thing that I love is that we can give them opportunities if they show great potential,” Matusek said, pointing out that two of the four employees from Greenleaf are working in the frozen and Nature’s Market departments. Those two employees, along with the others working as store clerks, have helped the location fill a staffing void.

“It was just a secondary payoff that they have done more for us than we could have ever imagined,” Matusek said, noting that the employees referred there through Greenleaf have had a positive effect on the atmosphere of the store. Customers who have filled out surveys have even mentioned store employees by name, pointing out the friendliness of the courtesy clerks.

“The positive impact these new employees have had on the store has been an unexpected benefit,” Matusek said.

Howard said he has appreciated that the Greenleaf clients are competitively employed at the store; they had to apply and go through the interview process like anyone else.
